Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is designed to teach, support and encourage patients as they recover from heart episodes. 

If you have experienced any of the following heart procedures or episodes, the Cardiac Rehab Program may be right for you.

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Coronary artery bypass
  • Heart attack
  • Balloon angioplasty
  • Stent placement
  • Valve replacement
  • Stable angina
  • Heart transplant

Following a thorough examination, you will be assigned a customized treatment team to work with you to develop an individualized plan of care. The goal of the treatment team is to enable you to achieve your maximum potential of recovery for your best quality of life.

Phase One, the inpatient phase, of the Cardiac Rehab Program is designed for patients who are in the hospital. Topics of the education sessions offered include:

  • Understanding coronary artery disease
  • Signals and actions of a heart attack/angina
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Post-bypass discharge information
  • Home exercise prescription
  • Cholesterol
  • Stress
  • High blood pressure
  • Smoking cessation

During supervised sessions, patients receive training about exercise progression and components of safe, effective exercise.

Phase Two, or the outpatient phase, of the program is tailored to meet your individual needs for a monitored, physician-supervised exercise program. This phase involves participating three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Through this program, youc can benefit from having your heart rate, blood pressure and heart rhythm monitored during your exercise session. Education is also a significant part of the outpatient program, and a diet analysis and instruction is offered by a Unity Health Dietitian. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) classes are also available for your spouse or significant other.
